Biography

Katherine Stanek was born in Oak Park, Illinois and lived in the Chicago area until her early
twenties. Pursuing work and education, Katherine relocated to Philadelphia where she held a full time corporate
management position while attending classes part time at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
In 2002 Katherine became
disenchanted with the corporate culture and resigned her management position to enroll full time at The Pennsylvania Academy
of Fine Arts receiving a 4-year merit scholarship for her studies. While attending the Pennsylvania Academy, Katherine exhibited
her work at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and several open and juried group shows at The Academy where she
was twice honored with The Perez and Mary Epstein Prize in Figurative Sculpture and received several merit awards in
sculpture and draftsmanship including; The Pennsylvania Academy Fellowship Trust Award for Outstanding Achievement, The
Plastic Club Membership Prize, The Stimson Sculpture Award, The Mindel Caplan Kleinbard Award for Outstanding Student
and The Ramborger Prize for Draftsmanship.
In 2006, immediately upon graduation, Katherine
exhibited eight bronze and concrete works as a solo sculptor at the JMS Gallery in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania and her work was selected
for outdoor public exhibition in downtown Ithaca, New York. Katherine has been invited to exhibit in several
group and juried shows throughout New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania receiving merit awards from The Plastic Club in Philadelphia
and The Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
Katherine’s
recent exhibitions include a solo show at The Rosenfeld Gallery in Philadelphia and her public installations include the sculpture
gardens of Burlington County College and the The Noyes Museum of Art in NJ. In 2010, Katherine was
awarded the George and Helen Segal Foundation Grant and will be attending a residency in Turkey to share her work and
techniques in concrete sculpture with an international community of artists.
Katherine currently lives and works
in New Jersey and is represented by The Rosenfeld Gallery in Philadelphia.
